China’s last legal dog track, the Yat Yuen Canidrome, originally opened in Macau in 1931 but closed seven years later due to declining interest.
The track opened again in 1963, becoming part of the burgeoning gambling scene on the peninsula.
After years of declining revenue and campaigning led by Anima Macau, GREY2K USA Worldwide and Pet Levrieri,
The Canidrome finally shut its doors for good on July 21, 2018.
The Canidrome owners did not prepare an exit strategy for the approximate 600 greyhounds in their care.
Previously, the greyhounds racing at the Canidrome were destroyed when they failed to place in the top three spots for five consecutive races.(Some estimates place the number of killed greyhounds at 30 per month, or almost 20,000 total during the track’s 55-year run.)
The last of over 500 surviving Canidrome greyhounds were airlifted to safety on June 10, 2019.
Commercial greyhound racing remains illegal on mainland China, though there is a growing concern about the popularity of unregulated racing.

Facts About Greyhound Racing in China
Gambling is illegal in China but happens regardless
There are numerous greyhound schooling and racing tracks in China
Several greyhound racing tracks have previously been raided by police in China but specifically targeted for illegal gambling.
It's fully legal to drug, beat, skin or cook a greyhound whilst still alive, for their flesh in China. There are no boundaries to how you can torture any animal there. They have zero animal welfare laws. (Please note that there are good Chinese activists risking their own safety to save dogs)
It is 100% evident that Irish and British raced greyhounds are sent to horrific conditions in China with no regards for their terrifying plight
Some British pro racers are trying to justify the industry sending British and Irish raced dogs to China regardless of the dangers the exported dogs are exposed to.It is not illegal to export Irish or British greyhounds to China or any other country that has outdated, or NO animal welfare laws.
Once a greyhound trainer completes a retirement form for their dog and submits it to the GBGB, the dog is no longer registered for racing. The industry claims they are NOT responsible for unregistered/retired greyhounds; regardless of them being bred specifically for racing.

Another female greyhound in Mainland China forced to birth another litter of pups for the greedy breeders. Those in the pro racing community will claim greyhounds only have small litters (maybe due to killing half of them) but most of the greyhounds we've come across have between 7-10 pups.
